Dermal Fillers Q & A

What do dermal fillers treat?

Dermal fillers treat many of the most common signs of aging and even serve as a less-invasive alternative to plastic surgery in some cases. Common treatment areas include:

  • Lips (lip injections)
  • Cheeks
  • Tear troughs
  • Smile lines
  • Folds and creases
  • Chin (nonsurgical chin augmentation)
  • Hands
  • Temples
  • Nose (nonsurgical “nose job”)
  • Jawline

Some fine lines are better treated with a neurotoxin, such as Botox®, or a laser skin treatment. We’ll work with you to determine your best treatment plan.

Which dermal filler is right for me?

Luminary Dermatology offers a full range of fillers to address any concerns you may be facing. Several of these fillers contain similar ingredients and work in similar ways.

During your initial consultation, your provider will discuss your goals in-depth to recommend the best option.

JUVÉDERM

JUVÉDERM is an HA filler that adds volume just beneath the skin to fill in lines, add fullness to cheeks, contour the jawline, and more.

Restylane

Restylane is another popular HA filler that works wonderfully to fill folds, fine lines, tear troughs, lip lines, and more.

RADIESSE®

RADIESSE is formulated with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres that provide immediate volume and encourage ongoing collagen production.

BELOTERO BALANCE®

BELOTERO is a lower-density HA filler injected higher up in the dermis, making it ideal for filling in fine lines, creases, and folds to perfect your skin’s surface.

What can I expect at my dermal filler appointment?

Your appointment will start with a consultation with one of our experienced RNs or board-certified dermatologists, who will discuss your goals and create your custom treatment plan. After applying a topical anesthetic to keep you comfortable, your injector will carefully place the filler via a short series of injections. Most treatments take just 30 or so minutes.

What is dermal filler recovery like?

After your appointment, you can return to your usual activities immediately. You may notice some swelling and bruising for about a week. Results typically last between 6 and 18 months, depending on where your provider placed the filler.
